Dadada-Dan Tenko
Music, dance and theatre are central in Tenko's production.
The ten young musicians play the taiko, the samisen, the Japanese
flute and other instruments with seemingly playful ease and they
perform humoristic musical acts in a virtuous way. But behind that
"playfulness" lies their discipline; they train daily
to improve their physical strength and practise rhythmics and expression.
With thunderous percussion Tenko create a visual and musical spectacle
fusing the traditional and modern music and culture of Japan sublimely.
Dadada-Dan Tenko was established in 1987 by dancer and choreographer,
Isaya Mondori. Following years of experience as a classical dancer,
Mondori decided to search for an individual dance style. In the
taiko, the Japanese drum, he discovered the instrument to make his
dance more active and energetic. This combination of dance and percussion
resulted in Dadada-Dan Tenko, now successful in many countries.
